Inaugural Esmo Asia Congress to Be Held in Singapore
ESMO Asia will see attendance of renowned regional and international oncologists

SINGAPORE, 18 December 2015 - The European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO), the leading professional organisation for medical oncology, is pleased to announce the debut of the ESMO Asia 2015 Congress in Singapore. A premier scientific and educational platform for oncologists and other stakeholders in cancer care, the Asian edition of ESMO's annual congress aims to bridge the gap between researchers, clinicians and patients across disciplines to find the more effective treatment solutions available today. The congress will be held from 18 - 21 December 2015 at the Suntec Convention and Exhibition Centre.

The last ESMO Congress was held in 2014 in Madrid, Spain and saw a record of 19,809 participants from 134 countries. For its Asian debut, over 2,700 oncologists and healthcare professionals from 70 countries are expected. Submission of research has been robust, with around 800 abstracts submitted.

ESMO Asia Congress will comprise both scientific and educational tracks prepared by an international scientific committee, including leading regional and international experts, addressing new developments in the respective fields as well as updating delegates on the latest standards of care across different cancer types.

The conference programme will include symposia, keynote lectures as well as patient case studies with leading experts and world-renowned oncologists with the objective of elaborating the clinical relevance of molecular advances and innovative treatment approaches, understanding current clinical challenges in various tumour types and novel treatment strategies for particular tumour subtypes.

The Opening Ceremony on 18 December 2015 will be attended by Guest-of-Honour President Tony Tan Keng Yam and ESMO and Congress President, Prof Rolf A. Stahel. Prof Stahel said, "In addition to playing a key role in improving access to the latest information for ESMO members and healthcare professionals in the region, particularly those unable to take part in educational events in Europe, ESMO Asia Congress will also enable our Society to build on the close collaborations already established with its many partners, including national oncology societies in Asia and worldwide. We are excited to work with all our partners in the best interests of cancer patients in the years ahead."

ESMO Asia Congress is supported by the most important and influential oncology associations in the region, including the Singapore Society of Oncology and the oncology societies from Australia, China, Hong Kong, India, Japan, Malaysia, New Zealand, South Korea and Thailand.
